Why focus on Knowledge Translation?

Knowledge translation encompasses a range of activities designed to ensure that best practices are understood and implemented in the clinical setting. Traditionally this is achieved when specialists share the best available evidence with those who will put it into practice. The K2A Challenge in Diabetes is highlighting what is happening in clinical practice by professionals whose experiences can help make improvements to care delivery.

Winners of the K2A challenge will be asked to share their ideas with colleagues across Canada.

Below we have listed some the most common forms of knowledge translation activities that can be executed if you are selected to become one of our inaugural winners!

Educational Workshops and Training Sessions

Interactive Workshops: Hands-on workshops where you can share practical skills and strategies for managing diabetes.

Continuing Medical Education (CME): Develop and deliver CME courses focusing on the latest guidelines and innovations in diabetes care.

CREATING AND DISTRIBUTING EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS

Infographics and Pamphlets: Design easy-to-understand educational materials that can be distributed to both healthcare providers and patients.

Guideline Summaries: Create concise summaries of clinical practice guidelines to facilitate quick reference and ease of understanding.

Developing digital resources

Webinars and Online Courses: Host webinars or create online courses that can reach a wider audience of healthcare professionals.

Mobile Apps: Develop apps that provide decision support, guideline summaries, or educational resources on diabetes care.

Peer-to-peer learning

Mentorship Programs: Establish mentorship programs where experienced clinicians can support and guide their peers in implementing best practices.

Community of Practice: Form online or in-person communities where healthcare professionals can share experiences, challenges, and solutions.

QUALITY improvement projects

Pilot Programs: Implement and evaluate small-scale pilot projects aimed at improving specific aspects of diabetes care.

Audit and Feedback: Conduct audits of current practice and provide feedback to healthcare providers to encourage adherence to guidelines.

Patient Involvement

Patient Education Sessions: Organize sessions where patients can learn about diabetes management, helping them to be more involved in their care.

Patient Feedback Mechanisms: Set up systems to gather patient feedback on their care experience and use this information to guide practice improvements.

Encouraging Creativity and Unique Proposals

While the above examples provide a starting point, we highly encourage you to think creatively and consider any unique ideas you might have. Innovation often comes from thinking differently and considering new approaches. Whether it's a novel use of technology, a unique partnership, or an unconventional method of engagement, we want to hear about it.

Your insights and experiences working in diabetes care are invaluable, and your ideas can drive meaningful change. This initiative is not just about funding projects; it's about building a collaborative effort to enhance diabetes care across Canada.
